Hikes in MidCoast Maine
If you’re looking for somewhere to hike, and you prefer either an “easy” or “moderate” intensity, check out the google maps below. If you click on the blue marker, a description with more info will pop up including a link for further info and a way to get directions.
Huge gratitude to the various Land Trusts and the Camden Hills State Park for allowing access to these areas. You’ll see, in the description of each, which organization is responsible for the trail. We encourage you to support these organizations with donations, purchase access passes where possible, and use Leave No Trace principles whenever you visit one of these locations.
easy hikes
For “easy” hikes, 1-3 miles in length with minimal elevation gain and a relatively managed or smooth trail surface, check out the locations on the map below.
moderate hikes
For “moderate” hikes, 1-6(ish) miles in length with elevation gain and a potentially uneven trail surface check out this map instead:
The weather changes quickly in Maine (sometimes that’s a great thing! sometimes it is not…) and so being prepared for anything is the very best way to get started on a hike anywhere in this area.
In any given season, the conditions on these trails can vary hugely. Classifications of “easy” and “moderate” are based on trail classifications on hiking websites. We have no way of knowing if a trail will be easy or moderate for you, though, and you need to read the description and make a judgement for yourself. Also conditions on any given day might make a once-easy trail quite challenging (think: wind, ice, heat, rocks, personal health etc). Please be smart when you are choosing where to go on a given day, and check the weather before you head out!
Please be sure to take the appropriate supplies with you - water, snacks, layers of clothing, a first aid kit, rain gear and so on. No phone = no help, so bring it with you.
Enjoy! Get Outside and Be Happier! You won’t regret it for a second :).
